Experienced Ruby on Rails Developer
Overview
OnePath AI is redefining how operational systems are built in one of the world’s most overlooked—and ripe—industries: home services. From HVAC and plumbing to installations and repairs, this $750B+ sector runs on bloated, outdated software. We're here to change that.
Launched in April 2025, OnePath is building intelligent, production-grade systems from the ground up—handling everything from bookings and scheduling to payments, dispatch, and real-time technician workflows. No AI bolted onto legacy software—just clean, modern architecture designed for performance, scale, and speed.
This is backend engineering with real-world impact: API design, background job orchestration, and clean data flows that power thousands of jobs across US & Canada. As a Ruby on Rails Engineer at OnePath, you'll build the foundations that make every product feature possible, partnering closely with our in-house Product Manager and Designer to ship thoughtful, high-quality systems users rely on every day.
With a current valuation of $20M and growing fast, we're building a world-class engineering team to match.
What You Bring
- • 3–5 years of professional experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
- • You've built and maintained production-grade APIs and background job systems, and you’ve worked through database migrations, performance issues, and scaling pain points.
- • Strong working knowledge of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL. You understand when to optimize queries, denormalize data, or introduce caching.
- • Experience with testing frameworks like RSpec or Minitest, and a solid grasp of CI/CD workflows.
- • You're comfortable with Docker, Git, and common development tooling.
- • Bonus: You've played around with OpenAI APIs or integrated external APIs into Rails backends. Familiarity with Python is also a plus.
How You Think
- • You're curious, but focused. You like learning new things, but not at the cost of shipping value.
- • You care about product and business context — you don't just want tickets, you want to understand how your work supports the user.
- • You strive for clean code but don't overengineer. You can tell the difference between technical debt and deliberate tradeoffs.
- • You enjoy mentoring or pairing with others, even if informally. Collaboration brings out your best work.
What Motivates You
- • You want to build something you can be proud of — something that real businesses use every day to save time, grow revenue, or deliver better service.
- • You're motivated by autonomy and ownership. You’d rather be trusted than managed.
- • You're looking for a team that values speed, accountability, and craft — not just shipping, but shipping well.
- • You see engineering as a force multiplier, not just a technical discipline — and you're excited to grow with a team that shares that view.
Why You Fit Onepath
- • You're eager to own core parts of a growing product and contribute to engineering direction.
- • You want to work in a culture that values trust, pragmatism, and a bias for action.
- • You’re excited about the impact of AI in real-world businesses — and you want your work to power intelligent systems that do more than just respond to user input.
Looking forward to meeting you!
